The Parish Council is considering joining BDC’s time bank initiative, a unique system which rewards volunteers. Individuals register free and receive 2 credits. One credit = one hour, everyone’s time is regarded as equal. Time bank members can post offers or requests on the time bank pages. No electrical, mechanical or caring roles are allowed but any thing else goes! Gardening, housework, baking, knitting, sewing, help with computers, languages , music, volunteer work in the community – the list is endless. If the Council joins, then we would have our own community “pot” enabling Councillors to “bank” their hours for attending meetings etc. In this way the Council will receive credits and can use them to “pay” other members of the time bank who come forward to volunteer their time at events, sit on committees or help with small tasks around the village. Having received credits from the PC the volunteer can then use them to exchange with any other member of the time bank who is offering a service which they may need. For example, cutting the grass, or painting a window.
